Next week is my last week in college; this is my last month. To tell the entire story, I am only in a certificate program, note: I will be back for a bachelors. With that being said, I am happy to be in the Creative Writing program that I am. I am glad I made the decision to follow through with my lifelong ambition to write. I have always excelled at writing. Writing has always came so naturally to me. When I was in grade school, listening to the teacher, I heard every word in Language Arts and English class clearly, whereas, in Math Class, I had the exact opposite effect. In ninth grade, I fell behind terribly in Math, which knocked down my self-esteem in school. I continued to get Fs in my classes throughout ninth and tenth grade year, until I came to the decision to drop out at the end of my tenth grade year. I figured I would go learn more in the world and then resort back to school for a GED, and that is just what I did. I moved to Savannah, Georgia, I got a job waiting tables at IHOP, and I studied to take my GED in June of 2016, which was the same year I was supposed to graduate. I am happy with my decision because I gained such a broad knowledge of the world, city life, and clarity of myself through self-discovery. I remained friends with friends that I had met in my early teenage years. I am happy to be who I am. My point is this: Do not judge me because I earned a GED instead of a high school diploma. My motivation is success that I am so close to reaching. Please don’t take that away from me.
